From the North Wall

The North Wall is about to embark on its biggest project to date. We will be spending the summer rehearsing a new play by the writer Ron Hutchinson that will open at The North Wall in September and then play for a month in London at Arcola. This play will be rehearsed alongside our outreach project for young artists.

North Wall Oxford

We are looking for possible accommodation for the choreographer, a sound designer, a costume designer and 8 actors to cover the period from 1st September to 15thSeptember. Prior to the 1st, St Edwards is kindly accommodating the cast in a boarding house. If anyone has a room or two to spare in the first two weeks of September, we would be hugely grateful. I can promise that they are all extremely nice and well behaved (yes, even the actors!). With a need to keep a tight hold on budget and arts funding being what it is, any help would make a considerable difference.

Please let me know if you have a room or know anyone else who is a supporter of the arts and might help. We do have a small amount of budget to offset any expenses incurred.

Thank you

Best Wishes,

Lucy

Draft Oxford Cultural Strategy

A post from Susie:

Hello All

Dance in Oxford

Just to let you know that following enquiries about trying to respond to this online, Oxford City Council’s Draft Culture Strategy consultation has now been extended till next Wednesday 20th June.  So a further opportunity for those interested in the arts to comment on the city’s Draft Culture Strategy for the next few years – please pass on to others who may feel moved to contribute! http://consultation.oxford.gov.uk/consult.ti/draftculturestrategy2012/consultationHome

There are also some interesting posts on the Huffington Post about whether arts should be supported:
Arts and Economic Prosperity IV’ Proves that the Arts Industry is Resilient, even in  a Down Economy

Oxford councillors and politicians should read this and ponder…

All best,

Susie

Performing Arts Facilities for Oxford

Susie has had a letter published in the Oxford Times about the need for more professional performing arts facilities in Oxford, and has written in more detail about it on Oxford Dance Writers.  With discussion about development of the Westgate area ongoing, she would like to start a public debate about this, so please do go and have a look at both. Susie would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions  that you would like to put forward. See: http://oxforddancewriters.wordpress.com/2012/06/02/performing-arts-facilities-for-oxford/
